In short

Upload the recording of the hearing and the transcript comes back with the time of every line, so the wording of a statement and the place it was said stay together. One file is up to 30 minutes; the free plan is $0 with 3 files a day.

The case

What a transcript is and what it is not

A hearing is read afterwards, by people who were not in the room. The words of a witness, the wording of an objection, the moment the judge answers — all of it has to be found again in a recording that plays forward only. A transcript with timecodes turns the hearing into a document that can be searched and quoted.

How it works

How to transcribe a hearing

  1. 1

Get the recording of the hearing

The file the court or the recorder produced is the one to upload. A session that runs past 30 minutes has to be split in two files; one file may be 30 minutes.

  2. 2

Upload it and separate the voices

Send the recording to the widget above, leave the language on automatic detection or set it, and switch on the split by speaker, so the judge, the parties and the witness can each be named.

  3. 3

Find the exact place of a statement

Every line carries the time it starts and ends. Export the text, search for the word that was used, note the timecode and check the sentence against the audio.

  4. 4

Take the transcript into the case file

Export TXT for the text itself, CSV when the statements have to be listed with their times, and DOCX on Pro for the document that goes into the file.

Tips

  • Check the names of the parties in the first minute of the recording.

  • Keep the original file: every timecode points at it.

  • Name the file after the case and the date of the hearing.

  • Export CSV when the statements have to be listed one by one.

Questions this page answers

Is this a certified court transcript?

No. A certified transcript is made and signed by a court reporter; what this service returns is the text of the recording with timecodes, for your own work with the hearing.

Can every speaker be told apart?

Yes, with the split by speaker the voices are named separately on request: the judge, the parties and the witness. Without it every line is unsigned, and who spoke has to be judged by ear.

How do I check a word against the audio?

Every line carries the time it starts and ends, so you open the recording at that time and hear the sentence. The timecode is the reference, not the memory of the clerk.

What happens to the recording of the hearing?

The transcript and the audio stay in your account until you delete them in the app; on the Free plan the transcript is kept for 7 days. The audio is never used to train models for other customers and never sold.
