What it is

a transcription service for files: a REST API, an MCP server and plugins for Claude and ChatGPT

the speech-to-text API of Google Cloud: a hyperscaler service sold by the minute of audio it processes

How the price is counted

a subscription: $10 a month paid yearly ($120 a year) with no minute limit of audio, or $20 a month paid monthly

per minute processed: $0.016 a minute for the v2 Standard model up to 500,000 minutes a month, $0.01 up to a million, $0.008 up to two million and $0.004 above that; dynamic batch is $0.003 a minute

Free plan

$0: 3 files a day, up to 30 minutes per file, no card

the v1 API is free for the first 60 minutes of audio a month, then $0.016 a minute with data logging and $0.024 without; the v2 Standard model has no free tier named on the pricing page

One file

up to 30 minutes per file on the free plan, no minute limit on Pro

no file size and no duration limit named on the pricing page; every request is rounded up to the nearest second

Transcription languages

99+ languages, set by you or detected

not given as a number on the pages we read; the supported-languages page lists the BCP-47 codes of the models

Export formats
6

TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT, CSV, and DOCX on Pro

not named on the pricing page
Live and streaming audio

not offered: we take a file that is already finished

the v2 API with dynamic batch, which processes audio at a lower urgency and at a discounted rate

API and machine-readable access

a REST API under /v1 and an MCP server with 4 tools, from the Pro plan

the v1 and v2 APIs, a console, a pricing calculator and a contact-sales path for a custom quote

Meeting bot, calls and hardware

none: no bot joins your meeting and we sell no recorder of our own

none on the pricing page; the standard model list names phone_call and video among the models

What we do not sell

no translation, no summaries, no topics, no sentiment, no medical model

medical dictation and medical conversation models at $0.078 a minute

What the price depends on

one thing: the length of the audio you send

the number of channels, the length and amount of audio, the recognition model, the batch method and the API version; each channel is billed separately

The case

A discount ladder and a flat month

The Google pricing page is built around a discount ladder: the more minutes you push through the account, the cheaper each one becomes, from $0.016 a minute down to $0.004 above two million minutes a month. Our price has no tiers at all. It is $10 a month with no minute limit, the same whether you send one file or a hundred.

How it works

How to move a file to this service

  1. 1

Read the ladder, not the first line

The v2 Standard model starts at $0.016 a minute and falls to $0.004 a minute above two million minutes a month. Our Pro plan is $10 a month with no minute limit, with no volume tier and no ceiling to argue about.

  2. 2

    Look at the free minute

The v1 API is free for the first 60 minutes of audio a month, and then the meter starts. Our free plan is 3 files a day, every day, with no card and no account balance to watch.

  3. 3

    Count the channels

Each audio channel is billed separately: 30 seconds in 4 channels is billed as 120 seconds. We take one file, and a separate speaker split is asked for inside the transcript, not in the price.

  4. 4

    Check the rounding

Every request is rounded up to the nearest second, so even a short file costs a second. We publish the real limits instead: up to 30 minutes on the free plan.

Tips

  • Discount ladders are written for the big buyer.

  • The free minute is a trial, not a plan.

  • A channel is a billable thing.

  • Read what the rounding does to a short file.

Questions this page answers

Is Google Cloud Speech to Text cheaper?

Per minute, yes: $0.016 for the v2 Standard model at the top of the ladder, and less as the volume grows. Our Pro plan is $10 a month with no minute limit, so the answer depends on how much audio a month you send.

What does Google Cloud give for free?

The v1 API is free for the first 60 minutes of audio a month, with and without data logging, and the v2 Standard model has no free tier named on the page. Ours gives 3 files a day of up to 30 minutes, with no card.

How many languages does Google Cloud support?

The pricing page does not give a number, and the supported-languages page lists the BCP-47 codes of the models instead of a count. We publish 99+ languages for recognition: 99+ languages.

Does Google Cloud record meetings?

Not on the pricing page. The standard model list includes phone_call and video among the model names, and every request is rounded up to the nearest second. We take a file and never join a call.

Can I export a Google transcript?

The pricing page does not name export formats. We publish six: TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT and CSV on every plan, and DOCX on Pro.
