In short

A Loom video is a file with a voice on it. Send it and the text comes back line by line, with the time of every line and the speakers named on request. A file holds up to 30 minutes; free is $0 with 3 files a day.

How it works

How to get the text of a Loom video

  1. 1

    Ask for the original file

The recording belongs to the person who made it. Ask them to share the file, or download your own from the library of your account. Any copy works as long as the speech is audible.

  2. 2

Upload it and mark the voice

Drop the file on the widget above. A recording may be up to 30 minutes at most. Leave the language on automatic detection, and switch on the speaker split when more than one person talks.

  3. 3

Read the message instead of watching it

Every line carries its start and end time, so the sentence that matters can be found without scrubbing through the video. The text goes out as TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT, CSV or DOCX.

The case

A message that happens to be a video

A Loom video is a message that happens to be a video. The person who made it pressed record, spoke, and sent it, and the words are now locked inside a file that cannot be searched, quoted or skimmed. Ask for the file, upload it, and the same recording becomes text you can read in a second.

Tips

  • Ask for the file, not for a summary.

  • Name the file after the question it answers.

  • Export SRT when the video needs a subtitle track.

  • Split the voices when the recording has two people.

Questions this page answers

Does the service open Loom links?

No. There is no connector to Loom and no account of ours inside it. You bring the file, and the link, the account and the space of the person who recorded stay out of it.

Can a Loom video get subtitles?

Yes. Export SRT or VTT: the timecodes are already on every line, so the subtitle track lines up with the video without extra work.

What if the speaker is not clear?

The transcript is a draft, not a verdict. Open the file in the editor, fix a name or a word, and export again — the corrected version is saved in your account.

How much does it cost to transcribe one video?

The free plan is $0 with 3 files a day and up to 30 minutes per file, no card. Pro is $10 a month when you pay yearly, and it adds DOCX, the API and the MCP server.
