Free Zoom transcription

Free Zoom transcription: what the free plan of the service gives away, 3 files a day and no card, and what the paid plan adds. Free $0.

In short

An account inside Zoom is not needed: the file of the Zoom recording is enough, and our engine reads it. One upload is enough, and the text comes back to you. The free plan is $0: 3 files a day, up to 30 minutes a file, and no card.

How it works

Free Zoom transcription without a card

  1. 1

    Open the Recordings tab

The host signs in to the web portal of Zoom, opens the Recordings tab and finds the meeting in the list.

  2. 2

    Take the file off Zoom

Open Zoom on the device where the recording was made, find the file and take it down. Nothing else of the platform is needed afterwards.

  3. 3

Send the file to the engine

Drop the file of the Zoom recording on the widget above, set the language and switch the speaker split on when more than one person talks.

  4. 4

Read the text, fix a name

The text comes back one segment per line, with the start and the end time of every piece. A wrong name is fixed in the editor.

The result

What comes back from the engine

  • TXT

One segment per line, the way a person wrote it down. It is the format to paste into a ticket, a chat or a document.

  • TXT, CSV

The start and the end time of every segment, and the speakers named separately when you ask for it.

  • SRT, VTT

SRT and VTT with the time of every line, so the recording can carry its own subtitles.

  • Markdown, DOCX

The transcript is edited through the API and exported as Markdown for a wiki, or as DOCX for a review.

The facts

What the service takes, and what the free plan gives

Where the file is

The host of the meeting downloads the cloud recording in the web portal: the Recordings tab, the thumbnail of the meeting, Download, and the confirmation.

Where the file is kept

A recording made on a computer is saved in the Zoom folder of the Documents folder; a cloud recording is in the Recordings tab of the web portal.

Length of one file

up to 30 minutes on the free plan, no minute limit on Pro

Free plan

$0: 3 files a day, up to 30 minutes per file, no card

Pro plan

$10 a month when you pay yearly ($120 a year), or $20 a month

The case

What the free plan does not give you

The Zoom recording is worth a text, and every text is worth the time of every line. The minutes are written twice: once while people talk, and once a week later from a recording nobody wants to sit through. The engine takes the Zoom recording and gives back a text, and the text keeps the time of every part of it.

Tips

  • Name the file of the Zoom recording after the meeting, not after the day.

  • Zoom gives the file, but the name of the file is yours to choose.

  • Check the length of the Zoom recording before the upload: 30 minutes is the limit of one file.

  • Over 30 minutes on the free plan a file has to be cut before sending; Pro has no minute limit.

  • Set the language of the Zoom recording yourself when you know it, or leave it on automatic detection.
