In short

How it works

How to transcribe a Zoom recording

  1. 1

    Take the recording file

Open the meeting, find the recording in the list of cloud recordings and download it to your computer. Video files are accepted, so there is no need to pull the audio track out first.

  2. 2

    Upload it on this page

Drop the file on the widget above: up to 30 minutes. Set the language or leave it on automatic detection, and switch on the speaker split when more than two people talk.

  3. 3

    Read it and export it

Every line carries the time it starts and ends. Fix a name in the app, save the transcript and export it as TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT, CSV or DOCX.

The case

What the recording itself does not give you

A meeting ends and the recording waits in the cloud. What usually follows is a second recording: somebody dictates the notes into a phone and reads them back the next morning. There is a shorter way. Take the file Zoom already made, send it here, and the words come back as text you can search, quote and export.

Tips

  • Name the file after the meeting, not after the day.

  • Turn on the speaker split for a meeting with more than two voices.

  • Export SRT when the recording has to become a subtitled video.

Questions this page answers

Does Transcribsi join the Zoom call itself?

No. There is no bot in the meeting and no account of ours inside Zoom. You download the recording and upload the file, so nothing about the call passes through a third party before it reaches the transcript.

How long does an hour-long recording take?

Our own measurement on a short file was 0.84 s for the transcription and 0.39 s for the language detection. A long recording takes longer and goes through a queue, but the transcript is saved to your account and you are not left watching a spinner.

Do I need a card to start?

No. The free plan is $0 with 3 files a day and up to 30 minutes per file, and it asks for no card. The paid plan is $10 a month when you pay yearly.

Can I get the speakers named?

Yes, switch on the split by speaker before you send the file. The people in the room are then told apart, which is the difference between a wall of text and a readable transcript of a meeting.
