Is a Meet add-on needed for this?
No. The service does not install itself into a meeting and never joins as a participant. It reads the recording file that you already have, and it does not touch the account.

Open the recording of the meeting in your Drive and download it. The file holds the sound of the call, and the service reads the sound.
Drop it on the widget above. A file may be up to 30 minutes, and the free plan takes 3 of them a day without asking for a card.

Plain text for an email, a note or a chat

A Meet call can leave two things behind: a recording in the folder of the account and a transcript on the screen of the meeting. The recording is the one that can be checked, quoted and archived, because it keeps the voice of every speaker together with the moment it was said. Take that file and the words come back as text with the timecodes still on them.
The recording in Drive is the copy you can keep.
Leave the language on automatic for a mixed call.
Check the first minute for the names.
Export SRT when the recording has to become subtitles.

Yes, and it has to be. One file is up to 30 minutes, so a longer call is cut into parts by you and uploaded part by part.
99+ languages, and a mix of the two is transcribed as it was spoken. Set the language in the widget or leave the detection on, which took 0.39 s on a short file in our measurement.
Fireflies publishes an unlimited transcription (fireflies.ai/pricing, read on 21 October 2026). Ours counts files: 3 a day for $0, up to 30 minutes per file, no card needed.
Speakers by name, a time on every line, export to TXT, SRT, VTT, CSV and Markdown.
