What does the free plan give for Google Meet transcription?
The file of the Meet recording is the input, and the engine reads it as it is: no conversion, no link, and no account.
Free Google Meet transcription: what the free plan of the service gives away, 3 files a day and no card, and what the paid plan adds. Free $0.
Google Meet is not part of the upload: the engine reads a file and not a page. The text of the Meet recording comes back one segment per line. The free plan is $0: 3 files a day, up to 30 minutes a file, and no card.
The organiser opens the Google Meet folder on the Drive and looks for the recording of the meeting.
One file may be up to 30 minutes, on every plan. A longer the Meet recording is cut into parts before it is sent here.
99+ languages are read, 99+ languages. Set the one the Meet recording is in, or leave the setting on automatic detection.
The split by speaker names the voices in the text when more than one person talks, and the names can be changed in the editor.
One segment per line, the way a person wrote it down. It is the format to paste into a ticket, a chat or a document.
The start and the end time of every segment, and the speakers named separately when you ask for it.
SRT and VTT with the time of every line, so the recording can carry its own subtitles.
The transcript is edited through the API and exported as Markdown for a wiki, or as DOCX for a review.
| What | What the platform says |
|---|---|
| Where the file is | The recording of a meeting is saved in the Google Meet folder on the Drive of the organiser, and the link to it comes in the email and in the calendar entry. |
| Where the file is kept | The transcript of a meeting is a separate Google Doc in the same Google Meet folder, one file for every run of the meeting. |
| Length of one file | up to 30 minutes on the free plan, no minute limit on Pro |
| Free plan | $0: 3 files a day, up to 30 minutes per file, no card |
| Pro plan | $10 a month when you pay yearly ($120 a year), or $20 a month |
What the Meet recording does not give you is a text you can search, quote or hand over. Nobody sits through 30 minutes to find one sentence, and that is exactly what a search in the text is for. The engine reads the Meet recording and gives the text back with the timecodes in place, so the minutes are written from the recording.
Name the file of the Meet recording after the meeting, not after the day.
Google Meet gives the file, but the name of the file is yours to choose.
Check the length of the Meet recording before the upload: 30 minutes is the limit of one file.
Over 30 minutes on the free plan a file has to be cut before sending; Pro has no minute limit.
Set the language of the Meet recording yourself when you know it, or leave it on automatic detection.
