In short

Upload the Teams recording and our own transcription engine returns the text of it. One file may be up to 30 minutes. The export comes as TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT or CSV, and as DOCX on Pro.

How it works

How to get the file and turn it into text

  1. 1

    Open the Shared tab

The organiser opens the Shared tab of the meeting and then the recording of the meeting itself.

  2. 2

    Download it

More options is pressed, Download is chosen, and the MP4 file lands on the computer.

  3. 3

    Before 21 days pass

A recording that was not downloaded is deleted after 21 days, so the file is worth taking early.

  4. 4

Send the file to the engine

Drop the file on the widget above, or pick it from the device. Set the language, switch the speaker split on when more than one person talks, and send.

  5. 5

Read it, fix a name, export

The text comes back one segment per line, with the start and the end time of every piece. Fix a name in the editor and export TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT, CSV or DOCX.

The result

What comes back from the engine

  • TXT

One segment per line, the way a person wrote it down. It is the format to paste into a ticket, a chat or a document.

  • TXT, CSV

The start and the end time of every segment, and the speakers named separately when you ask for it.

  • SRT, VTT

SRT and VTT with the time of every line, so the recording can carry its own subtitles.

  • Markdown, DOCX

The transcript is edited through the API and exported as Markdown for a wiki, or as DOCX for a review.

The facts

What Microsoft Teams keeps, and what it gives

Where the file is

A meeting that is not in a channel is saved as an MP4 in the Recordings folder of the organiser on OneDrive; a meeting in a channel is kept in the Files of SharePoint.

What the file is

The recording of a meeting in Microsoft Teams is an MP4 file.

What can go wrong

Only the organiser of the meeting can download the recording of it.

What usually fails

A meeting recording that was not downloaded is deleted after 21 days.

Length of one file

up to 30 minutes on the free plan, no minute limit on Pro

Free plan

$0: 3 files a day, up to 30 minutes per file, no card

Pro plan

$10 a month when you pay yearly ($120 a year), or $20 a month

The case

What the recording does not give you

A Microsoft Teams file is already on your disk, and it already holds the whole meeting. What it does not hold is a text you can search, quote or hand over. A recording cannot be skimmed, and a recording that is played again from the start is a recording nobody has. Our own engine reads the file once, keeps the time of every sentence and hands the Teams recording back as a document you can work with.

Tips

  • Send the audio when Microsoft Teams gives you both: it is the smaller file.

  • Split a long Microsoft Teams recording into two files and not into one big one.

  • A file called meeting-2026-10-24 tells you nothing in November.

  • Set the language yourself when you know it, or leave it on automatic detection.

Questions about Microsoft Teams files

Can I send the video of the Microsoft Teams recording?

Yes, a video file is read as well and the audio inside it is enough. If you want the file small, take the audio track of the same recording instead.

What if the Microsoft Teams file records somebody else?

Then it is the rule of any conversation: the people in the room have to know that it is being recorded. Nothing in this service changes that duty.

What size may the Microsoft Teams file be?

up to 30 minutes, on every plan. A longer Microsoft Teams recording has to be cut into parts before it is sent here.

Does the Microsoft Teams file keep working after the download?

On your device, yes: the file you took down is yours. What may change is the copy of Microsoft Teams, because a cloud recording can be deleted by its owner.
