An Otter alternative for transcription
Otter.ai or Transcribsi: a meeting assistant against a file-to-text API. $16.99 against $10 a month, 99+ languages against 6.
Otter is a meeting assistant: it records the call, writes the summary and files the tasks. For the words of a recording alone, Transcribsi is the other side: 30 minutes per file, no minute limit, $10 a month with no minute limit, and no bot in the meeting.

A meeting assistant or a file service
The choice is not about quality, it is about the shape of the work. Otter lives inside the meeting: it joins, it listens, it writes the summary, and the transcript is a by-product of a call that it hosted. We never join anything. A recording arrives as a file, the words come out with their timecodes, and the account of what was said stays yours.
How to move a file to this service
- 1
Decide who joins the call
If a live meeting has to be summarized and turned into tasks, Otter does that inside the call. If the recording already exists, there is nothing to join and the file is enough.
- 2
Take the recording off the meeting
Download the file from the list of cloud recordings and put it on the upload block above. Video files are accepted, so the audio track does not have to be pulled out first.
- 3
Split the voices
Two or more people in the room means two voices to tell apart. Switch on the split by speaker and every line of the transcript names the person who said it.
- 4
Search what was said
Every line carries the start and the end of the words, so the moment with the number or the name is one search away in the app, and CSV puts the same lines into a sheet.
Tips
A recording that already exists does not need a meeting bot.
Download the file; the video track is not a problem.
Name the file after the meeting, not after the day.
Split the speakers before the upload, not after it.
Questions this page answers
Is Otter cheaper than Transcribsi?
Not for a plain transcript. Otter Pro starts at $16.99 a month paid monthly, our Pro is $10 a month paid yearly. The free Basic plan of Otter gives 300 minutes a month, ours gives 3 files a day.
Does Transcribsi join the meeting for me?
No. There is no bot in your call and no account of ours inside Zoom or Meet. You download the recording and upload the file. One thing to know: a pure English file can be sent to a third-party cloud speech provider in the United States, when that fallback is on.
Can Otter transcribe a file I already have?
Yes, it imports files: 3 imports for life on the free plan, 10 a month on Pro, unlimited on Business. We take any file you upload, up to 30 minutes.
How many languages do you support?
Two for recognition: 99+ languages, and a recording that mixes the two is transcribed as it was spoken. The interface of this site is in English, and a language of the interface is a separate thing from a language the engine understands. Otter's pricing table names six.
