In short

iPhone is not part of the upload: the engine reads a file and not a page. No conversion first, iPhone files are read exactly as they are. The free plan is $0 with 3 files a day, and one file may be 30 minutes.

How it works

How to transcribe a phone call, step by step

  1. 1

    Record the call

Call Recording in the Phone app starts the recording and puts it into Call Recordings inside Notes.

  2. 2

    Save the audio

The Save Audio Files setting keeps the recording in the app, where it can be shared out of it.

  3. 3

    Mind the notice

Both people hear that the call is recorded, so the recording is a matter of agreement between them.

  4. 4

Send the file to the engine

Drop the file of the call recording on the widget above, set the language and switch the speaker split on when more than one person talks.

  5. 5

Read the text, fix a name

The text comes back one segment per line, with the start and the end time of every piece. A wrong name is fixed in the editor.

The result

What comes back from the engine

  • TXT

One segment per line, the way a person wrote it down. It is the format to paste into a ticket, a chat or a document.

  • TXT, CSV

The start and the end time of every segment, and the speakers named separately when you ask for it.

  • SRT, VTT

SRT and VTT with the time of every line, so the recording can carry its own subtitles.

  • Markdown, DOCX

The transcript is edited through the API and exported as Markdown for a wiki, or as DOCX for a review.

The case

What the recording does not give you

What the call recording does not give you is a text you can search, quote or hand over. What the file of the call recording cannot do is answer a question asked three weeks later. Our engine reads the file of the call recording and returns it as text, with the start and the end of every piece.

Tips

  • Name the file of the call recording after the meeting, not after the day.

  • iPhone gives the file, but the name of the file is yours to choose.

  • Check the length of the call recording before the upload: 30 minutes is the limit of one file.

  • Over 30 minutes on the free plan a file has to be cut before sending; Pro has no minute limit.

  • Set the language of the call recording yourself when you know it, or leave it on automatic detection.
