In short

Filipino is not one of our 99+ languages. Transcribsi transcribes 99+ languages, 30 minutes per file, no minute limit, $0 for 3 files a day. For Filipino audio, HappyScribe lists Filipino, Sonix lists Tagalog, and TurboScribe publishes Tagalog pages.

The case

Filipino, Tagalog, and the English in between

Ask for Filipino audio and you will get two names for it: the language pages of the market write Filipino and Tagalog, sometimes both on the same service. A meeting in Manila usually runs in English with Tagalog in and out of it, and a transcript that catches only one of the two is half a record. Our engine handles the English half.

How it works

How to handle a Filipino recording

  1. 1

Check the name, then the file

Filipino or Tagalog: pick the service that lists the one your file is in, then upload it there.

  2. 2

    Take the English parts

The English speech in the same recording is ours: 30 minutes per file on the free plan, no minute limit, and the language can be set to English.

  3. 3

    Keep the speakers apart

Name the speakers in the app afterwards, and export TXT, SRT or CSV when the record has to be searchable.

Tips

  • Look for Filipino and for Tagalog, both names.

  • Code-switching is normal, not an error.

  • Name the speakers while the recording is fresh.

  • Three files a day on the free plan.

Questions this page answers

Does Transcribsi transcribe Filipino or Tagalog?

Neither. The engine takes 99+ languages. The market files this language under two names, and we will not pretend that a third one works.

Why do the services use two names?

HappyScribe writes Filipino, Sonix writes Tagalog, TurboScribe publishes Tagalog pages. The names sit next to each other in their own language lists, which is where we read it.

What happens to a Tagalog file here?

It will not come back as Tagalog. Set the language to English when the speakers are speaking English, and let automatic detection decide when you are not sure.

Can one transcript carry both languages?

Athe recording language is detected automatically. For a Filipino-English mix, the file belongs to a service that lists Filipino.
