In short

A voice memo is a file of speech. Upload it and the words come back with a timecode on every line, so the memo can be searched, quoted and turned into tasks. A file is up to 30 minutes; free is $0 with 3 files a day.

How it works

How to turn a voice memo into text

  1. 1

Find the memo in the app

Every phone keeps voice memos in one list, and the file behind each entry can be shared or exported. Open the entry you mean, save its file and keep the original: a re-recording only adds noise.

  2. 2

Upload the memo on this page

Drop the file on the widget above. A memo is short, far below the up to 30 minutes limit, so one file is enough. Leave the language on automatic detection.

  3. 3

    Turn the memo into text

Every line comes with the time it starts and ends, so a sentence can be pulled out of the middle of a long dictation. Export TXT or Markdown for a message, CSV for a list of tasks, DOCX for a document.

The case

A memo you cannot search

A voice memo is a recording made for one person, usually for one thought. The phone keeps it as sound, so the words inside it cannot be found by a search, cannot be quoted in a message and cannot be put into a task list. Turn the memo into text and it becomes the kind of note you can read in a second and hand to somebody else.

Tips

  • Dictate into one memo per subject.

  • Say the topic in the first sentence.

  • Export CSV when the memo holds a list.

  • Keep the file name short and personal.

Questions this page answers

Can I dictate in Russian and get Russian text?

Yes. Pick Russian in the widget, or leave the detection on. The engine handles 99+ languages, and a file that mixes both is processed by our own engine on infrastructure outside the United States.

How long may one memo be?

30 minutes per file on the free plan, no minute limit. A memo of a few minutes is far below that, so the limit is not the thing to think about here.

Does the service keep my memo?

The transcript is saved in your account, so you can fix a word and export it again. The audio itself is never used to train models for other customers, and it is never sold.

Can one memo become a list of tasks?

The file gives the text with the timecodes, and the app shows the summary and the tasks of a recording. Read the transcript, mark the lines that are tasks, and export the list as CSV.
