In short

A webinar leaves one recording and a list of people who never came. Upload the recording and the talk comes back as text with the start and the end time of every line, ready for the follow-up mail. One file is up to 30 minutes, and the free plan is $0.

How it works

How to transcribe a webinar recording

  1. 1

Get the recording of the event

The host keeps the recording of the webinar where the webinar was held. Download that file: it holds the slides, the voice of the presenter and the questions that were asked out loud.

  2. 2

    Upload the recording

The file goes onto the widget above, 30 minutes on the free plan, no minute limit. Leave the language on automatic detection or set it, and turn on the split by speaker when a second person takes the floor.

  3. 3

    Turn the talk into text

Every line carries the time it starts and ends, so the minute of the question worth answering is found in the text. SRT and VTT carry those numbers for the recording, and DOCX on Pro carries the words for the notes of the session.

The numbers

What the transcript of a webinar contains

One recording

up to 30 minutes on the free plan, no minute limit on Pro

The questions

only the ones that were said out loud — a chat message is not sound

The presenter and the audience

each voice gets a label of its own when the split by speaker is on

Pro

$10 a month paid yearly, or $20 a month paid monthly: no minute limit of audio a month

The case

Why half of the invited people need the text

A webinar is a talk that half of the invited people never see. The recording stays on the platform of the host, and the notes of the presenter are a summary rather than the talk itself. A text version gives the absent half the same words, and it gives the present half something that can be searched.

Tips

  • Ask the host for the recording before the platform deletes it.

  • Check the first minute for the names of the speakers.

  • Export Markdown when the text has to become the follow-up mail.

  • Keep the chat separately: it is not part of the recording.

Questions this page answers

Does anything of ours join the webinar?

No. No bot sits in the call and no account of ours is connected to the platform of the host. You download the recording and you upload the file, and that is the whole mechanism.

Do the questions from the chat end up in the text?

Only the ones that were spoken out loud. A message in the chat is text on a screen, not sound, so it stays a chat message; the transcript holds the voices of the event.

How long does a recording take to process?

A short file took 0.84 seconds in our own measurement, and the detection of the language took 0.39 seconds. A long recording takes longer and goes through a queue, but the transcript is saved to your account.

What does the paid plan add?

Pro is $10 a month when you pay yearly and $20 a month when you pay monthly: no minute limit of audio a month, the Word export and the API come with it. The free plan stays at $0 with 3 files a day.
