A YouTube transcript generator, and what it reads

A YouTube transcript generator: TurboScribe, Notta and Transcribe.com take a video link, ours takes the file. Checked 21 October 2026.

In short

Three services take a YouTube link and fetch the video for you: TurboScribe, Notta and Transcribe.com. Our route is the file — the audio or the video itself, up to 30 minutes, on the free plan of 3 files a day.

The case

The only question is who fetches the sound

A transcript of a video is not a special feature; it is the sound of that video written down. The only question is who fetches the sound. A service that works with a link pulls the video itself and does the work for you, while a service that works with a file waits for the recording to arrive.

How it works

How to get the transcript of a video

  1. 1

Choose between a link and a file

TurboScribe, Notta and Transcribe.com accept a video link. If the address of the video is not yours to share, take the recording yourself and send it as a file.

  2. 2

Get the sound out of the video

The audio of a talk is often already a file on your disk. Keep it: a file is up to 30 minutes at most, and the transcript follows the sound.

  3. 3

Check the text against the sound

Read the first minute against the video. Names and product names are the first things to go wrong, and a subtitle file carries that mistake into the player.

Tips

  • Keep the audio of the video; it is the part that is needed.

  • Check the first minute for names before exporting.

  • A link service sees the whole video, a file service sees your recording.

Questions this page answers

Which free services take a YouTube link?

TurboScribe, Notta and Transcribe.com do, according to the comparison table of 21 October 2026. Notta's free plan allows two hours a month with a 3-minute limit per session.

Can I get subtitles for a YouTube video?

Yes, if you send the file: SRT and VTT are two of the six export formats, with the start and the end of every segment. The video itself stays untouched.

How long can the recording of a talk be?

One file is up to 30 minutes, on every plan. A longer talk has to be split into parts before the upload, and the service does not cut it for you.

Does the service watch the video for me?

No. We read a file that you send. Nothing is downloaded from a video platform on your behalf, and no account of ours sits inside one.
