Granola, Otter.ai and Transcribsi side by side

What it is

a meeting notepad that captures the audio on your computer, so no bot is invited into the call

a meeting assistant whose bot joins Zoom, MS Teams and Google Meet and writes the notes itself

a transcription service for files: a REST API, an MCP server and plugins for Claude and ChatGPT

How the price is counted

per user per month: $0 for Basic, $14 for Business and $35 for Enterprise

per user per month: $0 for Basic, $8.33 for Pro and $19.99 for Business

per month: $10 a month paid yearly ($120 a year) with no minute limit, or $20 a month paid monthly

How much audio is included

no minute limit is named on the pricing page; the Basic plan keeps 30 days of meeting history

300 minutes a month on Basic, 1,200 on Pro and unlimited on Business, and the minutes do not roll over

no minute limit of fair use on Pro, or 3 files a day of 30 minutes on the free plan

How long one conversation may be

not named on the pricing page

up to 30 minutes on Basic, 90 minutes on Pro and 4 hours on Business

up to 30 minutes per file on the free plan, no minute limit on Pro, and up to 30 minutes on the free plan, no minute limit on Pro

Importing your own files

not offered as a feature on the pricing page

3 imports for life on Basic, 10 a month on Pro and unlimited on Business, up to 6,000 minutes per import

any audio or video file you upload, up to 30 minutes on the free plan, no minute limit on Pro

Does a bot sit in the meeting?

no: the page calls it bot-free capture, and the home page says it uses your computer audio so it does not invite a bot

yes: the bot joins Zoom, MS Teams and Google Meet, and live transcription via RTMP costs extra

no bot and no recorder of our own either: we take a file that is already finished

Languages

multi-language support is listed, without a number of languages

the page lists English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Chinese for automatic transcription

99+ languages, set by you or detected

Where the notes live

30 days of history on Basic, unlimited from Business up; the audio is deleted after transcription and SOC 2 Type II is certified

25 most recent conversations on Basic, unlimited history and unlimited storage from Pro up

your transcript stays in your account; we keep the text, not the audio, and our engine runs outside the United States

Machine-readable access

MCP for Claude and ChatGPT on every plan — personal notes from the last 30 days on Basic — and an API from $14

an MCP server on the free plan, and an Otter API with webhooks in the enterprise tier

a REST API under /v1 and an MCP server with 4 tools, from the Pro plan

What the other two have that we do not

a calendar sync and a pre-meeting brief, apps for macOS, Windows, iOS, Android and Apple Watch, and integrations with Attio, Notion, HubSpot, Affinity and Zapier

a live notes and captioning feed, CRM integrations with Salesforce and HubSpot, automatic sync of Zoom and Dropbox recordings, and SSO with SCIM

none of that, and no meeting bot, no mobile app, no calendar, no SSO and 99+ languages

The case

Who sits in the room

Both of these write meeting notes, but they sit in the room differently. Granola listens to your computer and stays out of the call, so nobody sees a stranger in the participant list. Otter brings a bot in, and that bot does the whole job. Our service is not in the meeting at all: it is a finished file, a transcript and an export.

How it works

How to choose between a notepad and a bot

  1. 1

    Decide about the bot

Otter's bot joins Zoom, MS Teams and Google Meet and writes the notes while the meeting runs. Granola reads the audio on your own machine and invites nobody. We never join anything.

  2. 2

Price the seats, not the hours

Granola bills $14 a user on Business and $35 on Enterprise; Otter bills $8.33 on Pro and $19.99 on Business. Both are seat prices. Ours is one account for $10 a month with no minute limit inside it.

  3. 3

    Check the minute limits

Otter gives 300 minutes a month on the free plan and 1,200 on Pro, and the minutes do not roll over. Granola names no minute limit. Our Pro plan holds no minute limit of fair use, and a file stops at 30 minutes.

  4. 4

    Look for your own recordings

Otter imports 3 files for life on Basic, 10 a month on Pro and unlimited on Business. Granola does not offer file import as a feature. We take any file you upload, up to 30 minutes.

Tips

  • A bot in the call is visible to everyone.

  • Seat prices multiply faster than minutes.

  • Minutes that do not roll over are minutes you lose.

  • Ask whether your own files count as a feature.

Questions this page answers

Does Granola send a bot into my meetings?

No. The pricing table calls it bot-free capture, and the home page says Granola uses your computer audio so it does not invite a bot. Otter does the opposite: its bot joins Zoom, MS Teams and Google Meet.

Which of the two is cheaper for one person?

Otter Pro is $8.33 a user a month and Granola Business is $14, while Granola Basic and Otter Basic are both $0. Our Pro plan is $10 a month with no minute limit, with no seat count to multiply.

Can I import my own audio files?

Otter allows 3 imports for life on Basic, 10 a month on Pro and unlimited on Business. Granola does not list file import as a feature at all. We take any file, up to 30 minutes.

How many languages do they transcribe?

Otter lists English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Chinese, and Granola says multi-language support without a number. We publish 99+ languages for recognition: 99+ languages.

Does either one give me an API?

Granola adds API access from the $14 Business plan and MCP for Claude and ChatGPT on every plan, with personal notes from the last 30 days on Basic. Otter has an MCP server on Basic and an API with webhooks in its enterprise tier. We have a REST API and an MCP server from Pro.
