Microsoft Teams transcript
Microsoft Teams transcript: the Teams recording as a readable transcript, one segment per line, with the speakers on request. Free $0, 3 files a day.
For Microsoft Teams transcript, the work is short once the file is on your own disk. Two voices in the Teams recording are told apart, and every line keeps the name. The export of the transcript is six formats, and the free plan is $0 with 3 files a day.
How to get Microsoft Teams transcript
- 1
Open the Shared tab
The organiser opens the Shared tab of the meeting and then the recording of the meeting itself.
- 2
Switch the speaker split on
The split by speaker names the voices in the text when more than one person talks, and the names can be changed in the editor.
- 3
Read the first lines before you share them
The first minute of the text shows whether the recording was clear. If a name is wrong there, it is wrong in the whole file.
- 4
Keep the export next to the recording
The text of the Teams recording lands in a file of its own. Keep it next to the recording and the two stay together.
What comes back from the engine
- TXT
One segment per line, the way a person wrote it down. It is the format to paste into a ticket, a chat or a document.
- TXT, CSV
The start and the end time of every segment, and the speakers named separately when you ask for it.
- SRT, VTT
SRT and VTT with the time of every line, so the recording can carry its own subtitles.
- Markdown, DOCX
The transcript is edited through the API and exported as Markdown for a wiki, or as DOCX for a review.
What Microsoft Teams keeps, and what the transcript gives

- Free plan

What the recording does not give you
Meetings end in files, and the Teams recording is what is left of them. A meeting ends with a file on a disk, and the text of it takes a minute more of work. Our own engine reads the Teams recording and returns a text in which every segment keeps its own start and its own end.
Tips
A correction in the editor does not move the time of any other segment.
Keep the Teams recording in a folder of its own, so the export lands where you look for it.
The free plan gives 3 files a day, and the paid plan is $10 a month when you pay yearly.
A headset microphone gives a cleaner text than the microphone of the room.
99+ languages are read, so set the one your recording is in.
