In short

An audio file on a page of Notion is a file on the servers of Notion. Take that file and the speech of it comes back as text, one line per segment, with the time of every line. One file holds 30 minutes.

How it works

How to transcribe an audio file from Notion

  1. 1

Open the page of the recording

Find the page with the audio block and open it. The player of the file sits on the page, and the name of the block often holds the date of the meeting.

  2. 2

    Take the audio file

Download the file of the block or find it in the menu of the page. Notion keeps an uploaded audio file on its own servers, and the formats it takes are aac, m4a, mp3 and wav.

  3. 3

    Upload it on the widget

Put the file on the widget above and leave the language on automatic detection. The engine works with 99+ languages and picks the language of the file on its own.

  4. 4

    Export the text

Every line of the export shows the second it starts at. TXT for the document, SRT for the video, CSV for a table with the time and the voice.

The case

Why the audio on the page is not a text

The recording of the planning week was put into a page of Notion, and the page shows a player and three lines of a summary. The words themselves are in the file, and a text of that file turns the page into a document you can quote.

Tips

  • Check the format of the file before the upload: aac, m4a, mp3 or wav.

  • Convert a movie before you put it on the page.

  • Keep the link to the page next to the file.

  • Export TXT for a document, SRT for the video of the meeting.
