In short

The sound of the voice memo is enough: the engine reads the file as it was made. The text can be searched, quoted and handed over. The free plan is $0: 3 files a day and 30 minutes a file, and no card is needed.

How it works

Free voice memo transcription without a card

  1. 1

    Share the file

The Share sheet of the app sends the file through AirDrop, through Mail or through Messages.

  2. 2

    Take the file off iPhone

Open iPhone on the device where the recording was made, find the file and take it down. Nothing else of the platform is needed afterwards.

  3. 3

Send the file to the engine

Drop the file of the voice memo on the widget above, set the language and switch the speaker split on when more than one person talks.

  4. 4

Read the text, fix a name

The text comes back one segment per line, with the start and the end time of every piece. A wrong name is fixed in the editor.

The result

What comes back from the engine

  • TXT

One segment per line, the way a person wrote it down. It is the format to paste into a ticket, a chat or a document.

  • TXT, CSV

The start and the end time of every segment, and the speakers named separately when you ask for it.

  • SRT, VTT

SRT and VTT with the time of every line, so the recording can carry its own subtitles.

  • Markdown, DOCX

The transcript is edited through the API and exported as Markdown for a wiki, or as DOCX for a review.

The case

What the free plan does not give you

Once the voice memo is on the disk, the rest is the engine and a minute of waiting. One word of a decision, three weeks later, and the answer is in a sound file that has to be played from the start. The file of the voice memo goes to our own engine and comes back as a text with the time of every sentence.

Tips

  • Turn on the split by speaker when more than two people talk in the voice memo.

  • Give the speakers of the voice memo their names in the editor, one time, and export again.

  • Send the audio track of the voice memo when the platform gives you both.

  • The audio of the voice memo is smaller than the video of the same call.

  • Export SRT when the voice memo has to become a subtitled video.
