In short

A Webex meeting is recorded as an MP4 file, and the video goes to the User Hub of the account. Download that file and the talk comes back as text, one line per segment, with the time of every line and the speakers named.

How it works

How to transcribe a Webex meeting

  1. 1

    Record the meeting

In the meeting click «Record» and choose the recording to the cloud. That option belongs to the paid plans; the recording on your own computer is an MP4 without the chat and without the list of the participants.

  2. 2

    Find the recording

Open the User Hub of the account and go to «Recordings». The file of the meeting is an MP4 with the video and the sound of the talk, and it stays in the cloud while the plan allows it.

  3. 3

    Download the file

Download the MP4 from the User Hub. The sound of the talk rides in the video, so a recording of the screen without the sound gives an empty transcript.

  4. 4

    Upload and export

Put the file on the widget above and leave the language on automatic detection. One file holds up to 30 minutes, and a longer meeting is cut into parts before the upload.

The case

Why a meeting of an hour needs a text

A meeting of an hour is a file of a few hundred megabytes, and the part that matters is usually four minutes in the middle of it. Scrolling the replay back to that minute costs as much time as the meeting itself, and a text of the same recording costs one search.

Tips

  • Record to the cloud when the plan allows it: the file is easier to find.

  • A recording of your own screen keeps the sound of your machine only.

  • Name the file with the date and the name of the meeting.

  • Export CSV when the talk has to go into a table of decisions.
