How to transcribe a Google Chat voice message

Open the space of the chat
Find the message in the space or in the direct message. Under a voice message there is «View transcript», and the words of the message can be copied from there.

Get the audio file
Google Chat gives no download button for a voice message. Forward the message to another app that keeps audio files, or record the message with a second device when the file itself is needed.

Why a voice message in Chat needs a text
In a space of Google Chat the voice message is the fastest way to say something and the slowest way to find it again: the chat does not search the words of a message. A text of the same recording turns the sentence into something you can look up in a second.
Tips
Copy the transcript from the chat before the message is cleared.
Check the first seconds of the file before the upload.
Keep the name of the space in the name of the file.
Export TXT to paste the words into a document.

Can I download a voice message?
There is no download button for a voice message in Google Chat. Forward it to an app that keeps audio files, or record the screen of the message with a second device.
Does it work on a Chromebook?
Google says that the voice messages are not supported on Chrome OS. On a phone and on a desktop with the browser or the app of Chat they work.
How long may one file be?
up to 30 minutes, on every plan. A voice message is far below that, and a recording of a long space is cut into parts before the upload.
