What we compared, and how

Everything in the other column was read from public pages on 21–22 October 2026. Where a page could not be read, the cell says “not measured” — we do not fill those cells from advertising or from memory. Our own column comes from our pricing page, our service contract and our privacy policy, all published on this site.

Where Kapwing is better

  • The whole editing suite around the transcription: an AI video editor with auto-subtitles, and 6,442 tool pages in the sitemap against a handful of pages on this site.
  • The exports of a video: video, images, audio and GIF, next to the SRT and VTT subtitles and the transcript file.
  • Subtitle translation named for 60+ languages, which we do not do at all — we transcribe, we do not translate.
  • A free tier that lets you edit: the limits are real (the export stops at 4 minutes, a watermark sits on it), but the editor is free to try.
  • 4,000 minutes of AI features on the Business plan and up to 10,000 on Enterprise.

Where Transcrib Si is better

  • A finished transcript, not an editing session: the text, a start and an end time for every segment, speaker labels on request, and six export formats — including DOCX and CSV, which the Kapwing export list does not name.
  • A clean free plan: $0, no card, no watermark, 3 files a day of up to 30 minutes, with TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT and CSV on the free tier.
  • One price: $10 a month paid yearly ($120 a year) or $20 a month paid monthly, and a stated allowance of 1,500 minutes of audio per calendar month.
  • Agent access: a REST API under api.transcrib.si/v1, an MCP server with 4 tools, and plugins for Claude and ChatGPT.
  • Russian and English, tuned for Russian and for mixed Russian-English speech, and a published privacy policy that names the processors and the retention periods.

Who should pick which

  • Pick Kapwing if you are making a video and the subtitles are one part of the edit — the editor, the templates and the export are the reason to be there.
  • Pick Transcrib Si if you need the transcript itself: an interview, a lecture, a voice memo, a call you were allowed to record.
  • Pick Transcrib Si if you need the text without a watermark, without a 4-minute export limit, and in DOCX or CSV.
  • Pick Transcrib Si if the transcript has to reach a script, a dataset, Claude or ChatGPT.
  • Pick either if you need Russian and English; our engine is tuned for that mix and we publish the number of languages.
This is not a review. It is a comparison of facts we could read and measure on 21–22 October 2026. We publish one of the two services and we have tried to state our own weak side as plainly as we state the other one.

The short version

Kapwing wins on the surround: an editor, templates, a video export, a GIF export, a large tool base, and 60+ languages named for auto-subtitles and subtitle translation.

We win on the artifact and on the machine: a finished transcript with a start and an end time for every segment, speaker labels on request, TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT, CSV and DOCX, and an interface for a program — REST v1, an MCP server with 4 tools, plugins for Claude and ChatGPT.

The free plans differ more than the paid ones. Kapwing's free tier edits videos but stops the export at 4 minutes, puts a watermark on it and gives some AI features 5 minutes a month. Ours gives 3 files a day of up to 30 minutes with five export formats and no watermark.

The price shape differs too: Kapwing counts minutes of AI features (1,000 on Pro at $16 a month, 4,000 on Business at $50, up to 10,000 on Enterprise), we count minutes of audio (1,500 on Pro at $10 a month paid yearly, or $20 a month paid monthly).

FAQ

Questions this page answers.

Is Transcrib Si cheaper than Kapwing?

For transcription alone, usually: our Pro is $10 a month paid yearly ($120 a year) or $20 a month paid monthly, against Kapwing Pro at $16 a month with 1,000 minutes of AI features, Business at $50 with 4,000 and Enterprise on request with up to 10,000. Kapwing's price buys the editor as well.

Does the Kapwing free plan have a watermark?

Yes, on the exported video, and the export of a video stops at 4 minutes on the free plan while some AI features are limited to 5 minutes a month. Our free plan exports the whole file, up to 30 minutes and 64 MB, with no watermark and no card.

Can I export a transcript from Kapwing to DOCX or CSV?

The formats published on the Kapwing pricing page we read are video, images, audio and GIF, plus SRT and VTT subtitles and a transcript file. DOCX and CSV are not in that list. We export TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT, CSV and DOCX, with DOCX on Pro.

How does Kapwing rate on Trustpilot?

On 22 October 2026 the page trustpilot.com/review/kapwing.com showed 1.9 out of 5 on 1,375 reviews. We publish no rating of our own, and ratings move — read the page yourself before you decide.

Can I use Transcrib Si inside Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes — a plugin for each, both going through the same MCP server: transcribe_audio, summarize_transcript, extract_actions and list_transcripts.
